I have been driving by this 1962 Bruce Matthews layout for the last 40 years because it looked flat and boring........Well, it's not. What you see from the highway (#1 / 346yd & #2 / 358yd) are probably the two (2) flattest Par 4 holes on the course.

The conditions from tee to green were as good as you could ask for with trees, traps, water, and green-side runoffs lurking in the shadows. With four (4) tee selections you can choose from Blues 6,440 /71.1 / 132 down to Greens at 4,605/66.6/114 and bring your slope range finder when attacking those raised greens. The #3 hole is a Par 3 that can play from 200yds down to 102yds that has a steep front. The #4 is a 514yd Par 5 that is a straight narrow Hcp 1 hole that requires a full carry to the raised green, so don't land short. The Number 5 a 397yd Hcp 5 Par 4 is your first water hole down the left-hand side and scattered trees on the right. The #6 at 305yds is short but the elevated green has runoffs that will push the ball 30yds from the green is you miss left front. The #7 is a 171-138yd Par 3 but don't miss right or down the hill you go. The #8 is a Hcp 3 sweeping right 381yd Par 4 with a generous fairway with scattered trees, framing the hole. The #9 is a sweeping left 531-331yd Par 5 that demands a 190yd drive from the Blues to catch the fairway and watch the water on the right for your 2nd shot.

Starting out on #10 is a 389yd Hcp 6 Par 4 that has a creek crossing 230yds from the Blue tees. The #12 is an uphill 321yd Par 4 that plays harder than its Hcp 18 ranking because of an elevated green with a front trap. The #13 is a short Par 5 at 495-341yds with a very narrow fairway to another elevated green. The #14 is a 404-274yd Par 4 that has a deep ravine fairway in front of the green if you hit your drive over 215yds, so target 200yds from the Blue tees. The #15 has your 200-240yd drive ending up on the backside of the hill in front of you, to a green you don't want to miss right on. The #16 is a 186-152yd Par 3 that has water left to a raised tipped green that will hold those long iron shots. The #17 is a 380-261yd Par 4 and it's Hcp 2 hole that is uphill with two (2) front traps to contend with. Finishing with a Par 5 at 538-398yd has a very narrow fairway leading to a hilltop green that runs off in all directions. Enjoyed playing here with the overall conditions and challenges on hitting those many hilltop greens, then reading settle breaks. Playing with my son Jeremy for his 46th Birthday was a treat also on this cool September morning.

I ended up shooting 44/45 w/ 34 putts as choosing the correct yardage to the greens was a real challenge today. Look forward to playing here again as the $29 Senior rate was very fair for challenge and conditions.
